Science & Global Perspectives in 2nd Grade
Science – Mystery Science (Next Gen Standards, 2nd Grade):
Our 2nd grade science curriculum uses Mystery Science lessons and hands-on activities to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of the natural world. Students will explore big questions and investigate through observation, experiments, and problem-solving. This year’s units include:
Animal Biodiversity & Habitats (Animal Adventures): Discover the amazing ways animals survive and thrive in different environments.
Plant Growth & Interactions (Plant Adventures) – 14 Sessions: Explore how plants grow, what they need to survive, and how they interact with their surroundings.
Erosion & Earth’s Surface (Work of Water) – 19 Sessions: Learn how water shapes our Earth through erosion and landform changes.
Material Properties (Material Magic) – 13 Sessions: Investigate the properties of different materials and how they can be used to solve real-world problems.
Cambridge Global Perspectives – Stage 3:
In Cambridge Global Perspectives, students begin to think critically about the wider world, connecting classroom learning with real-life issues. Through research, discussion, and teamwork, they develop communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Stage 3 topics we will explore this year include:
Healthy Living – How our choices affect health and well-being.
Looking After Planet Earth – Caring for the environment and protecting natural resources.
Improving Communication – Understanding different ways people share ideas and information.
Keeping Safe – Exploring ways to stay safe at home, at school, and in the community.
Transport – How people and goods move around the world, and the impact on our daily lives.
Together, these programs encourage students to become curious scientists and thoughtful global citizens, building knowledge and skills that connect learning to their everyday world.
